Woodworking in Community Spaces

Thursdays 6th, 13th, 20th & 27th June, and 4th & 11th July 10am - 4pm at Colab Exeter Free

Through this course, participants will learn how to make interesting and attractive garden features from wood and other natural materials. Participants will have the opportunity to design and make a garden sculpture, using different kinds of wood to create an interesting feature inspired by nature and the outdoors. Participants will also have the opportunity to build a wooden planter, wooden decking and even an attractive screen using willow branches.

The course will firstly lead participants through how to safely prepare, cut and sand wood ready for use, as well as how to use simple tools before learning key techniques in how to effectively assemble their structure. Participants will also learn valuable skills in working as part of a team, and realising an idea through to completion.

By the end of the course, participants will have learnt several key techniques in basic woodwork construction, including how to safely use a number of woodworking tools and have been involved in designing and making at least one outdoor garden feature as part of a team.
