Employment checks

Much of the work of Colab Exeter is focused on supporting people, some of whom may be vulnerable to abuse and who may have complex lives and backgrounds. Therefore it is really important that we safeguard the people we support by following safe recruitment procedures. 

DBS Any staff that are involved in working directly with vulnerable people will be asked to provide a satisfactory criminal records (DBS) check once they have been offered a job and before starting their role.  These checks are important to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our service users, staff and volunteers and to make sure that we are able to put any relevant support in place for people if needed.

We are committed to finding ways to support people on a recovery pathway from the criminal justice system and recognise the barriers this can present for people, where a disclosure is made we will aim to support people through this process sensitively and make sure that any information is dealt with confidentially.

References We will ask for two satisfactory work references where available, if not personal references may be acceptable. We will also need to see suitable proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
